Easy Baked Italian Sausages in Tomato Sauce

Easy Baked Italian Sausages in Tomato Sauce

This simple baked sausage dish is one of those old-school comfort meals that fills the kitchen with rich tomato aroma while barely asking you to do any work. Juicy Italian sausages bake slowly in a thick tomato sauce until everything turns savory, hearty, and deeply comforting.

It’s the kind of rustic family dinner that works beautifully over pasta, tucked into toasted rolls, or served alongside roasted vegetables and crusty bread for soaking up every bit of sauce.

Servings

6 servings

Ingredients

  • 10 Italian sausage links (mild or hot)
  • 1 large jar (24–32 oz) marinara or tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley for serving

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce across the bottom of a 9×13-inch glass baking dish.
  3. Arrange the Italian sausage links evenly in the baking dish.
  4. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the sausages, spooning some sauce directly over the tops.
  5. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper evenly across the dish.
  6. Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15–20 minutes, or until the sausages are fully cooked and lightly browned around the edges.
  8. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving so the sauce thickens slightly.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these baked sausages over spaghetti, creamy polenta, or buttery mashed potatoes. They’re also delicious stuffed into toasted hoagie rolls with melted mozzarella cheese for an easy sausage sandwich.

A crisp green salad or roasted peppers on the side balances the richness nicely.

Variations & Tips

For extra flavor, add sliced onions and bell peppers underneath the sausages before baking. The vegetables soften into the sauce and create a classic Italian-American sausage-and-peppers feel.

If you like heat, use spicy Italian sausage or stir a pinch of red pepper flakes into the sauce before baking.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the oven until hot throughout.
