This simple, cozy casserole combines tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef,
and a light tomato sauce baked together into a hearty, comforting dish.
Perfect for busy weeknights with minimal prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 small head green cabbage (1½–2 lbs), cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 lb ground beef (80–90% lean)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter (for greasing)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch dish.
  2. Spread sliced cabbage evenly in the bottom of the dish.
  3. Mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Scatter seasoned beef over cabbage in small clumps.
  5. Whisk tomato sauce with beef broth and pour evenly over top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  7. Remove foil, add cheese, and bake 10–15 minutes more.
  8. Optional: Broil 1–2 minutes for a golden top.
  9. Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.
