Here’s a basic recipe for a Sponge Cake

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

4 large eggs

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup milk (optional for added moisture)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

1/4 cup melted butter (optional for added richness)

Instructions:

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch cake pan.

Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Beat the eggs and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar using an electric mixer on high speed for about 5-6 minutes, or until the mixture is light, fluffy, and pale in color.

Add vanilla and milk (optional): Stir in the vanilla extract and, if desired, the milk for added moisture.

Fold in dry ingredients: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture in small batches, being careful not to overmix.

Optional butter: If you’re adding melted butter for a richer flavor, gently fold it into the batter at this point.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and serve: Let the cake cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving. You can serve the cake as is, with a dusting of powdered sugar, or with whipped cream or fruit.

This type of cake is very versatile and can be enjoyed plain or paired with various toppings. Would you like any suggestions for variations or toppings?
