4-Ingredient Amish Biscuit Beef Casserole

This hearty, no-fuss casserole is a classic comfort meal inspired by old Midwestern and Amish-style cooking. With just four simple ingredients—ground beef, a creamy gravy, and biscuit dough—it bakes into a warm, satisfying dish perfect for busy weeknights or cozy evenings.

Tender biscuit pieces bake right over seasoned beef patties and rich gravy, creating a stick-to-your-ribs supper that’s simple, filling, and always a crowd-pleaser.

Servings

6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80–85% lean)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 (10.5-ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 (16-ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 large biscuits)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven: Set oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch glass casserole dish.
  2. Season the beef: In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef with salt and black pepper until evenly combined.
  3. Shape patties: Divide beef into 6 equal portions and form into flat square patties (about 3 to 3½ inches wide and 1/2 inch thick).
  4. Arrange in dish: Place patties in a single layer in the casserole dish, leaving a little space between each.
  5. Make gravy: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  6. Add gravy: Pour the mixture evenly over the beef patties, making sure they are well coated.
  7. Prepare biscuits: Open the biscuit dough and tear each biscuit into 3–4 rustic pieces.
  8. Top casserole: Scatter biscuit pieces over the beef and gravy, covering most of the surface.
  9. Bake: Place on the middle rack and bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
  10. Finish baking: If biscuits brown too quickly, loosely cover with foil. Continue baking 10–15 minutes more, until biscuits are golden and beef reaches 160°F (71°C).
  11. Rest: Let casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve: Spoon into bowls, making sure each portion includes biscuits, beef, and gravy.
